Meet Colleen Bierdz, LMT

Hello my name is Colleen Bierdz. I am happy to be a new member of the Olive Branch team offering massage therapy.

In Dec. of 2013 I graduated with high honors from Elgin Community College with a Certificate of completion in the Massage Therapy Department. While I enjoyed all of my classes during that year, I was especially fond of the clinic classes that provided the opportunity for students to learn the importance of touch and how it can benefit our clients. We were taught to use our touch through massage techniques while working on clients from the very first week of school.

These clinics allowed us to talk to the clients afterward. We were able to learn how effective our massage had been. Many clients expressed a feeling of calmness and complete relaxation.

There are so many benefits of massage that can help you gain the healthier lifestyle you are looking for. Make an appointment today and take a mini-vacation on my table!

The Health-Boosting Benefits of Massage

We all know that massage is a treat and it feels great, but did you know that massage therapy gives you amazing health benefits too? So much so that massage therapy is now part of the integrative medical care at the Mayo Clinic!

More importantly, the benefits of massage are being proven by research, and more research keeps coming in:

  • A study from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center showed that people had important changes in their immune response after Swedish massage, experiencing a boost in lymphocytes, the white blood cells we count on to fight infection.
  • Analyzing 17 different studies, researchers showed that massage helps combat depression and improves your mood.
  • Research shows massage therapy can reduce your systolic blood pressure for up to 72 hours after a massage session, and also reduces markers for inflammation
  • Massage therapy is shown to treat fibromyalgia, insomnia, digestive disorders, sports injuries, headaches. low back pain, stress, and improves cardio vascular health.

When you are changing your lifestyle, you often have to do things that feel uncomfortable: giving up or reducing your favorite foods, and/or exercising more. These can be hard changes! But massage is an easy change to add to your lifestyle. It makes a great reward for yourself when you’ve reached one of your health goals (instead of taking yourself out for ice cream or buying candy). It’s also a great pick me up if you’ve had streak of tough days (again, instead of eating ice cream or candy).

That’s why in this newsletter we’re introducing Colleen, our massage therapist at Olive Branch Wellness Center. The best way to meet Colleen and experience the health benefits of massage is to book an appointment! We can’t wait to incorporate massage into your health journey.
